The setup screen
Open HR › Setup. It lists every step — company, people, time, pay and hiring — and works out each one's status from your real data, so it is never out of date. Each step says why it matters and links to the screen that completes it.
Steps show as Done, Partly done, To do, Skipped or Locked (waiting on an earlier step). Health warnings at the top point at things that will cause trouble later, such as people without a manager.
The order that works
- Company and legal entity, then work locations. Each location decides whether attendance is tracked there and how people check in.
- A holiday calendar for the year, and your shifts.
- Departments, designations and employees — use bulk import for more than a handful — and reporting managers. Everyone except the person at the top should have one.
- Leave types and a default policy. The Indian standard template is one click. Add opening balances if you are moving from another system.
- Payroll: salary components, a salary structure, a pay group, and the statutory rates for the current financial year.
- Optional: helpdesk categories, onboarding templates and recruitment settings.
Quick start
On a brand-new company the setup screen offers a quick start that creates a legal entity, a first location, this year's holiday calendar, the standard Indian leave types and a default shift in one go. Anything already on file is left exactly as it is, and the result lists what was created and what was skipped.
Check the seeded statutory rates. They are copied forward from the previous year and the payroll screens say so until somebody reviews them.
